Last two days have been spent fighting with Flickr, figuring out how to get the FC back in the garage without bottom out (until they repave the driveway) and running back and forth to High Park for the Cherry Blossoms.

Okay, I feel the need to clear up a bunch of rumors regarding the Sony Reader, and put it into a more proper light . General reports are that the Kindle is the beats the Sony on a several points. So I wanted to address each point based on my experiences of having a Kindle to play with, owning a Sony reader prs-500 and prs-505 in the house, and both kindle 2 and prs-700 to poke.

So one of my two Grand Central Accounts have been updated.
So far here are the points I have found ( + is Positive; - is negative; = is meh ; ? is questions) ( GV : Google Voice / GC : Grand Central )
+Vmail is transcribed and can be sent via email (possibly only to non gmail accounts) + Overseas calls can now be made. Rates are pretty good http://bit.ly/XRmFQ + SMS's out and in. Free going out, not sure going in + Billing is well documented + Add funds 10 bucks at a time. Thats 500-1000 minutes the way I use it. + Custom schedule settings on phones now available. (Canadian numbers can't be changed; Grandfathered) + Vmail pin setting is per phone setting. + Call log menu is much more intuitive + Contact import is back. CSV only + Custom Groups + Reporting of spam calls (I've not ever gotten any on GC but it is a nice feature) + sms routing +conferencing now available for incoming calls. Up to four numbers. +Inegrated G411
= Mobile versions allow temp numbers. Since I only have one upgraded yet, I can't tell if they overlap. = More professional look, but often its at the sacrifice of intuitiveness and effeciency. = History provides full overview. =Canadian Numbers are not supported, but grandfathered numbers work.
- Country code 1 (US /Canada) is no longer treated as national. 1 cent per minute to Canada. - OGM messages are gone both in GC and GV; have to be recorded. - Add funds 10 bucks at a time. Thats 500-1000 minutes the way I use it. - Mobile and rich version auto switch based on user strings. This is bad cause I used to be able to keep GC mobile in a Firefox sidebar. - My Japanese ring is gone. - Groups settings menu is sparser, much more confusing by comparrison. - Phones settings menu is a bit confusing, but powerful - Mapping of phone numbers is gone (wasn't always accurate anyway) - Contacts don't get imported. - Calls with voicemail are neither recieved or missed. What?!?! - Still no fax
? Phone number overlap on accounts : temp & perm numbers ? Time out for voicetags on callerid? GC didn't have this and people who didn't get it made bad choices.
AS far as difficulties: 1) People need to stop diffrentiating between US +1 and Canada +1. We all know that there is no extra cost in the routing of the exchanges. It's been working up to now, so why be jackasses about it?
2) Google seems to be using some sort of funky round-robining array. They don't behave to spec and are buggered by greylisting. Luckily you can add multiple emails to the account and choose where notifications go. So I created a keyed whitelist email tag in my milter and used that for the address GV sends too.

Will post pictures of the geckos later. Appearently being in their new home has afforded them the prefect opportunity to shed, making them none too excited or cooperative. Kinda wish I could use my new cannon to make the photos but that won't arrive in my grubby little hands till after the ides of march. (spoooky)
Will have pics soon enough tho.

Up until this morning I stayed neutral on the whole Natali del Conte issue. I had nothing negative to say, but nothing positive. As of today's show I reasses and that's beyond just the prissy atitude of wanting everything new first, and the only person to have it.Also beyond her primping her nipple petals on the pre show.
My problem is her journalistic integrity. Part of my definition of journalistic integrity is doing your own bloody research. In Buzz Out Loud today she mentioned doing a review comparing the New Kindle with the Sony reader. Neither in the review or on BOL did she say which Sony Reader. Looking up the vide I gather she used the PRS-700. I am upset because on the show she said the Sony reader needed the pc program to get content on. That's utterly wrong. In the video it was simply no wireless downloading with out the software. More true, but imprecise and stretching it.
Some facts: PRS-505 and PRS-700 mount as standard usb memory devices. So content can simply be copied in any OS that suports thumb drives. People may point out the difference about being download from the stores, which frankly is irrelevent. The Kindle has to come from the store due to DRM. The sony reader suportsmultiple open formats in addition to LRF (libre reader format) which was inherited from their old readers the libre release in japan early this decade. As the format is that old, there are plenty of converters allowing you to buy prc or lit books as well, and convert them. As a result I don't see cataogues as an isue more of an annoyance. Inaly touching on the wireless download. For the last and final time (I hope) Verizons technology is a deadend and was given up in most parts of the world. As a result the kindle is a very regional solution at best.
This kind of journalistic one side man ships shows either a lack of neutrality, or of research, both of which really make it difficult for me to se her as any different from several reporter flakes that making their living by maing beatoff material for zealots.
Finally I missed people in the other IRC channel I announced due to headaches from this experience, and for that I am mifed and sorry.

Today Buzz Out Loud, in episode 914, asked the question is The Pirate Bay (TPB) more like Google the search engine, or YouTube (Google) content provider.
I made the quip that TPB doesn't host content, while YouTube does.
I wanted to expound on that a bit more. Or better yet take it to it's simplest level.
What does Google's search engine actually do? When you make a search it turns your search into basically a vector, it then searches it's database and returns links pages that have been indexed and have a similar vector. Therefor, what is stored on Google's servers? In the most simplest view, just a mathematical identification that points to content. [DISCLAIMER: I am ignoring caching here, because in that manner Google does actually store content and is open to DMCA action for that subsection of it's operation]
What does TPB's search engine do? Using much simpler keyword based searches, it links you to files that they store called torrents. Torrents are a hash that can be used to bittorrent clients to find other bittorrent clients that have the file which the hash describes. Which is to say, its a mathematical identification which can be used to find content.
So, mathematically speaking, both parties store and make available mathematical identifiers to allow people to find content they wish to find.

Ok .. so I've gotten enough information that while I can call MS's tags interesting they are a failure in my book.
So Microsoft has released it's own bar coding system that among other things uses high color contrasts to make the various codes different. I was wondering to myself how this is different from QRCodes, and what I was told (indirectly) that they are more accurate and smaller. I cannot attest currently to the accuracy issue. I've been using QRCodes for over a year now and have had much luck. As for the size I call this FUD based on the picture I've seen in the resource. The picture Microsoft is showing shows a rather small Microsoft tag beside two very large Data Matrix and QRCode tags. I'd say that based on the data examples the Microsoft tag is <10 bytes of data. I cannot speak to the DataMatrix but the QRCode is 4 times the physical size, and based on the encoding markers it could hold up to 1 k of data. Big difference. In personal experience I've managed to put a 18byte message into the same size. (Actually, when it comes to size the MS Tag is bigger; .625" vs .5" for QRcode V2)
Another issue I take is that the MS Tag works through a centralized approach access MS servers to translate the code into a URL, that you then link to get the information. I see several issues here, namely being control and inability to use the feature offline.
QRCode Pros +Up to 70% of the code can be damaged and the information recovered with normal error correction methods +The spec allows the size to grow with data +The spec allows for a micro QR code under 35 characters that is the same size as the MS Tag (bit.ly anyone) +Doesn't need color, therefore simple printer and stamps work with this process +Non centralized +Can store data in any form +Can retrieve data offline if it's encoded in the code +Free (technically patented but owner refuses to exercise patent such that people will actually use it) +Already in major use for parts labeling +Software and embedded hardware for decoding/encoding is already widely available Cons - Not wide spread outside of Asia for consumer use - There is a possibility that some phones cannot read the codes (I can't verify this as even my cheapest phone works fine) -Black and White can have contrast issues
MS TAG Pros + Color could be used to condense information +Color may make it easier for phone scans + All Tags are smaller than many QRcodes. (Size restriction due to bit.ly style url redirect) Cons - Centralized - Hints that the system to create the tags will become pay only eventually - Incapable of working offline Questions * What kind of error correction (if any) does it use? * Will money become a factor? * Will Microsoft be able to force consumer adoption any more than QRcodes have?
Bottom Line: I don't foresee adoption on a wide scale, and even if it is, it will be another US centric technology. QR Code is superior in most respects including existing deployment but US consumers still don't get it; and probably never will. MS Tags will go the way of the CueCat.

I
found an interesting product that seems to be on the verge of release.
Keyport Inc. has on
it's website it's debut product, the
Keyport SLIDE. We've all had to deal with
the magnitude of keys. The slide is, at it's most basic, a box that holds up to
six duplicates of your keys and allows individual keys to be slid out and used
by turned the entire box. In looks, its reminiscent of the backup keys used by
many luxury car makers.
![]()
Keyport
is planning certain features such as RFID chip integration, remote access for
automobiles, and the ever ubiquitous LED light. These features sound like it
would be a great addition to many OEM applications. Companies, like Lexus,
could certainly use this instead of a simple keychain to integrate their brand
into the family lives of their customers. At this point it is unclear whether
Key will be offering a more consumer targeted version of its SLIDER that allows
simple keychain functionality without the extra bells and whistles that many users may not really need. Price point
has also not been discussed.

So today was one of the more interesting days in hands on tech. While doing my spring cleaning I needed background noise and what better then "The Tech Guy." After yesterday's experimentation with ustream, it was decided that today's tech show will be streamed fromed the beginning. Afterwards, Leo rewired his setup a bit to allow us to listen to everyone being recorded for the "This Week in Tech." After the netcast recording was over, Leo, Iluminatis and several other TWiTs got together with their ustreams, the rest of us on IRC, and messed around with the technology.
Great potential was the theme of the day. This is exactly what I think Production IG was thinking when they drew the Laughing Man chatroom in the ninth episode of Stand Alone Complex. The main mods and direcotrs of the chat can talk and discuss, while the remaining participants chat and ask questions. By being able to respond to the spectators by talking, rather than typing, it leaves the drivers of the discussion to pull up and deal with more resources.; this should then enrich the conversation. While I am still worrried that a lot of Web 2.0 is still way too fragmented resulting in information overload; I think that this is a great leap forward. in what the technology can provide. We are also seeing a major speed up in development again. Not quite Dot-Com levels, but the tech sector is definatly recovering.

The MPAA may generally treat netizen's as more of an nuisance then an asset, but it hasn't stopped them from adopting many radical ways to generate publicity for all the stolen movies that they are making record profits on. Hollywood's use of movie websites is nothing new, nor is their advertising in IMDB. In their strive to reach greater audiences, they turned to more community based sites about 2-3 years ago. While still uncommon, you could find various movies making use of MySpace to generate attention, and more importantly user generated content for up and coming movies. MySpace, or as I like to think of it the meat market of the next generation, is specifically targeted at the teen demographics that many studios are aiming to hit. For better or worse, it provides wonderful fodder for Hollywood. Mor recently, as Amber MacArthur highlighted several weeks ago, independant artists have been using Facebook to generate the same sort of following, even if its much more muted. Prevous to that Six Apart manged to help pioneer another medium of advertisment. Shortly before "Blood and Chcolate" was released in the theaters, a sponsered Live Journal account appeared that was being ghost-written for the main character. I found this a great way to not only generate hype, but to shine a light on some of the character expressed in the movie. With yesterday;s premier of "Drive" stateside, Twitter has been added into the fold. Throughout both the and east coast airings, director Greg Yaitanes (and various cast and crew who swiped his phone) twittered inside facts and fun thoughts to the presence stream. For those that are on twitter, and knew of the promotion, this was a very interactive way to watch a classically one way program. I for one already feel more engaged with the show then I would have otherwise.

When I first came to Canada there was only one small issue I had. The cellphone network had the worst competition I had ever seen. Then Rogers turned into a virtual monopoly by buying Fido and becoming the only GSM game ... in the country. Why is this so? Well you can thank the CRTC in it's continuing policy to protect, not the Canadian consumer, but Canadian companies. People ask me why I still keep my T-Mobile account and phone ... here's one answer :
I think it's time to write to the CRTC and our MP's. Even they should be able to understand this graph.

I was listening to Leo's netcast for Tech Guy this morning (granted a few days out of date) and heard a slip that while tecnically incorrect could lead to some inexperienced users facing a number of issues.
Someone called in asking for help on doing a fresh install of Windows XP. As Leo rightfully pointed out one good idea is download SP2 first and install it with no net connection immediatly after windows finishes. You can download the SP2 file for IT professionals for this and burn it to a cd. Paul Thurrott's Super site has a link up for installing a fresh copy of windows. For a clean reinstall you can follow this same tutorial, with a small modification. At step 5, hit 'L' to delete the existing partition. After this you should be able to go on and create new partitions on which to install. As both Dave and Leo mention you can make different partitions for your programs and your data.
This is where I think Leo made a small slip. He mentioned that he even makes a parition simply for his swap file. This is infact a good idea. However, it comes with the caveat that this is only a good idea if this swap parition goes on a different drive from where windows and your programs are stored.
First reason for this is seek time. Normally windows copies a program into memory, but if it needs to page the program to the swap file you will have the reading head jumping to read a bit of the program on one portion of the disk and then write it to another. It does this untill all the little bits of the program are copied to swap. If you set this on a second drive, the heads will have to move much less and can read/write in bigger chunks.
Secondary reason, which isn't necesarily true is that the thrashing your reading head makes when copying from drive to swap on the same disk, could potentialy shorten the life of the hard drive. From a mechanical standpoint, this makes sense. Repetative stress is no better for a small motor than it is for your wrists. Thrashing amplitude is also one of the metric S.M.A.R.T. uses. This of course is in no way saying S.M.A.R.T. is always right or the metric is even relevant; but it's food for thought if faster paging doesn't wet your appetite for moving the swap file to that second hard drive.

I always thought my day job with my current company was a brain eater. No longer am I on top of events like I was back when working for LISO. Beware of outsourcers for this very reason. Do your research. For outsourcers, the goal is your continued business. This means they manage your problems; outsourcers rarely see the benefit to their bottom line that is gained by providing bonafide solutions. You'll see many consultants pushing for oracle backends, or even domino on big iron, when a simple Ruby on Rails solution is more then adequate. Even when considering scaling, its just as easy and often vastly cheaper.
Why is this you may ask? For one, there is the extended and higher profit margin to consider. Secondly, outsources like to stick to what they know. Disruptive technologies are often dismissed as immature with maturity testing costing too much in the short run. This is why you'll see many financial firms still running dino farms of Big Iron. The truth is by adding a few months of maturity testing and developement, the result will oftenbe a better faster system with a longer life cycle. This is good for the client. A satisfied client will then look to the vendor for bigger and better projects. This is good for the vendor, but often dismissed in short run views.
So what brought this all to a head? I went to sign up for twitter today and found I already had an account from a while back. My brain, so filled with useless information and filling paper work, seems to have dumped important data. I've known for a while now it's been starved of information relative to the movng world of tech, but hadn't realized the full extent. I must find a way to lift my eyes from my feet and place them on the digital horizon where they belong.
All that said and done, another reason for the lack of twitter maybe the lack of updates i get, and reasons to post their. Since its more mind snippits the blogging I'll make a deal with all who link me. I'll actually brain dump when my cell's setup if people will actually read.

There are quite a few aspiring authors on my F-list who've occasionally asked in random about how to get published. Obviously not everyone has the luck of having publishers beating down their door; and self publishing is often a good way to make publishers ignore you in the future. Perhaps Scott Sigler is one to emulate.
Sigler tried to get hsi book published only to have Warner pull out twice the week before running. He decided to try another approached. Podio books. By podcasting himself reading his own books, he managed to generate a great deal of interst. So much so that not only did he find himself a publisher; but his book had been sitting number 7 on Amazon. His podio books now include small adverts at the beginning and Sigler claims he is making much more income off the adverts then actual book sales.
So maybe it's time to invest in some professional Mic's and a decent mixer board, and join the netcasting revolution.

Thoughts .. and statistics .. interesting argument .. however its based almost entirely on one keystone statistic ...
On average, that’s 22 songs purchased from the iTunes store for each iPod ever sold.
Point of contention #1 : Every ipod ever sold is a bad metric to begin with ... Of those how many ipods are in use, or even hold duplicate songs ....
Point of contention #2 : Apple has yet still to prove that they have changed their metrics on what "sold" means. Last time there was an independant review, sold meant a lot of things. A trade up was a sale. A refurbishment was a sale. A harddrive replacement was a sale. According to these metrics some ipods could potentially account for even more then 10 sales per physical unit.
So while songs sold by iTunes is a static and well trackable number (maybe) depending on definations ... the number of ipods could be an exponentially expanding number not related to physical units made.Current Mood: amused

Jawdrop, someone finally saw the benefit of using RIS in a 50,000+ employee company ... instead of the hammered together peicemeal burden of a deployment system I've been dealing with the last two years.
Actually it's better then pure RIS, which makes me happy. Standard images for the main machine types, with an interface site that allows us to automatically build SIF's and set image+sif scripts onto the staging server based on MAC. And the site is actually AJAX!!!!
Tis a wonderful new tool really ... what that ? You did something bad to your pc? ... Ok I'll see what I can do about it....
Find PC where user is x Find profile where user is x Apply profile in step two to pc in step one Save'n'stage
Next morning when it reboots .. muahhaha!

Each player of this game starts off with 10 weird things/habits about themselves. People who get tagged need to write a blog of their own 10 weird habits/things as well as state this rule clearly. At the end you need to choose 6 people to tag.
1. I don't sleep too well without a Katana or kunei or something within reach.
2. I can't stand Fluorescents ... well analog balasted fluorescents. The way they strobe make everything go light and dark ... UGH!
3. I dislike getting rid of anything. Not a great thing.
4.Given half a chance I would eat only semi-traditional japanese food, and that seems to be the only thing I am good at cooking.
5. Everything at home is in someway wired. Even the lights are timed.
6. I have a secret plan to cover every portion of my workspace at work with various items from megatokyo and ghost in the shell. TACHIKOMA!!
7. The best shows I watch are all broadcatched.
8. My currnet main computer fits in my pocket, and has better resoultion then my work desktop.
9. I have a japanese style kneeling desk I innovated in the bedroom.

Top Ten Girl Geeks provided through [slashdot]
I actually have to thank C-net, and the comments on /. for helping me finally feel vindicated. This highlights the simple truth there is a great divide between the classification of geek and gamer. While a person can be both it's not a given : [ GeekUGamer ; Geek∩Gamer ]
Simply put, the example of the ten spot. Paris Hilton. Gamer, I agree. Most agree. There's really not much more she can do in life. Quod erat demonstrandum.
As for the idea that they ran out of people to put on the list, or popular people .... well off the top of my head I can through a few more people into the list :
Catherine Bell Cat Schwartz TO's own Amber MacArthur and for once, I think Nick is in luck ....
Anyhow, that's just a few..

Well, I was poking around micropctalk's forums and came across a link to one of the several articles on Jenn K. Lee's site : http://www.pocketables.net . First, if there are still any doubters that a female can be an alpha geek, then read the site. If you still suffer from your misconceptions ... there's nothing anyone can do for you and the GOP is probably looking for more members.
Reading her review of one of the screen protectors, I decided to post of my own experiences. I ordered my UX50 from dynamism and they are offering an "LCD Protection Sheet" ( VGP-FLS8 ). I will note that I need to take pictures during the day and post them tomorrow. Canada evenings just aren't giving me a proper light source to make a good picture.
When I first recieved the screen i was mildly dissappointed to find that the screen protector is of the sticky variety. That is to say, it is of the variety that sticks to the screen, rather than sticking under the edge of the screen around it. I've been spoiled by NuSheild's products for my tablet, pda, and cellphones. (For my PSP I rely on MadCatz' in-case protector as there's no lip ) As for why I prefer this type, it's becuase of an incident one of my friends had. Minor heat on a cheap protector caused enough distortion that he had to replace the digitizer on his pda.
After getting over my dissappointment, I decided to place the protector on my screen. Advance nearly 28 minutes of trying to get it on without getting any lint or dust under it (ok .. there's four peices). I plan on taking it off and washing it, as the claim is the protector is washable. Unlike the one reviewed by Jenn, the VGP-FLS8 matches the screen perfectly which should be no surprise as I believe it is a Sony product. This raises a question that Jenn touched upon. This being how to remove the protector without "permanently turning up or creasing" the corners, or possibly scratching the screens. I've always found that using a peice of tape on the corner and giving it a slight twist when lifting up allows enough access to a corner to remove the accessory.
So final question, how clear is it? There is glare, but no more then on the screen itself. The screen remains ... surprisingly crisp. Displaying one of klena's drawings, most people have said it looks like its a sheet of paper placed on the screen until they see the cursor. ( Piccie )
All in all, I give it two thumbs up. One, incidently, for each screen protector provided in the package. If they last as long as the one's from NuSheild's, then it's a years-worth of accessories. I still would like to see what, if anything, NuSheild will offer, if for no other reason then to compare.

Well, it was a great. The whole week.
Kai and Adam arrived on Monday, to less fan-fare then I would have liked to have given; but such is life. They spent forty-five minutes waiting for their luggage ... I guess the tarmack crew was having a heatstroke break or something. Came home, picked up caffienne and vegged around. Next day we met up at Ontario place and ruffled thru the Chinese Lantern Festival. It was magnificient! Wednesday night I cooked, or failed to do so. I'm out of practice.
Kai and I did the driving on the trip down to Baltimore. Dun really let anyone drive the car; but I have to say she justified my trust. Got into the hotel around 1330 Baltimore Time. Vegged around and then went to pickup tickets. One hour sitting in the sun, on the west side of the BCC, in the afternoon, in 38 degree weather. Someone needs to seriously get some logic there.
There was much mix up and Dei didn't make it to Niwana but, most people made it. It was fun, and interesting. Didn't get to walk around campus, but Adam and Kai were tired, and well, i still have my memories. My friends are more important now. :)
Con was great, saw all kinds of stuff I wanted. Hit the dealers room. Ended up coming away with a glave, a couple of kune's, some kung-fu shirts ... which apperantly make me seem slim, Otakon swag, a die-cast voltron, and a State Alchemist Watch. SQUEEE! Kai got some great neko gear. Up on the website ... meow!
Trip back started with some mistakes, but was generally uneventful. Stopped at Niagara and got to see Civil Holiday fireworks. YAY! It was an oka day, it was a good night. A good friend is worth any amount of money.
Tuesday was just getting as much face time as possible! :) Hit one of the local japanese stores; and man was it expensive compared to the one out on Mavis. Outback for dinner, then off to the Airport. And of course I screwed up the terminals ... whoops .. silly ZZ!
There was much missing and hugging.
It's amazing how good it is to here someone calling you ZZ again. Reminds you there are people who care about you. Also, its amazing how a good friend can cause lots of bawling when they have to leave, no matter how long or little time you had to spend with them.
There are more pics up since my last post. Go look : http://unwired.digital-starlight.com/gallery/v/Dailys/2006/08-August/Otakon/Current Mood: pensive

Ok, so frankly, I am bothered by the recent "confirmation" of rumors that AMD wants to buy ATi. First, if canadian protectionist laws let this aquisition go through, but continue to block decent cell companies from entering the market ... meh. Slippery slope time. VERY Slippery slope.
Secondly, I am having the worst nightmares of what could happen to ATi. *shudder* Last thing I want to hear is that my videocard is starting to drop every second and third frame cause of some incompatibility between timing, the drivers, and the HAL. I guess I am just glad I don't hold ATi stock. Cause I'd feel really gyped if it was replaced by AMD stock.

On other fronts, to some people I will say; Yes, I will discuss my views about goings on in the mideast one on one. No public posts till the bruhahah rolls over ...I will, however, venture to say that I am annoyed at the amount propoganda being slung around. Sources all false or not cited at best. And of course, pictures out of context for that money shot.... grrr.Current Mood: annoyed

Ok .. Clothing portion of Otakon costume is done with the exception of one patch.
BDU Pants, Belt, Boots, Shirts and TAC Vest all gotten. Section 9 Patch order Interesting note. Costume seems to have 38 pockets.
Remaining : Tattoo (not exactly for the costume but would be nice to with.) Velcro backing for Section 9 Patch Firewall for neckports P90
Possible Country flags.
I was thinking of getting flags for the US, Canada, and Japan for the opposite shoulder patch. Cutting them diagnoally and using velcor would allow for multi-country affiliation and still alllow non-descript when wanted. Thought is to where a canadian / Japanese flag to represent home and GITS. Thoughts?Current Mood: artistic

I haven't posted all week. Not really anyway.
Terms end this weekend. Which means teacher's gypping us of our last week and making everything due last weekend so they have more time to grade. Also means nothing to do so I've been living it up. The weekend consisted of a quick run to see Tokyo Drift. It was much better then I expected. Nothing to write home about, but it was a fun movie. I also found the samurai subplot that popped up two or three times in the movie nice and inspiring. (Kinda wondering if this subplot was intentional; Guess I just can't give the makers enough credit.)
New car radio was delivered and very quickly installed. It's really nice, sounds great and well gotta love a radio that can play mp3's directly off the SD card sitting in my PDA.
Yesterday on a quick notion we decided to see "Superman Returns." I liked it. Not something I wanna see more then once every few years, but I am like that with all the Superman movies. Still a few interesting twists, amazing actors ... and good to see the Daily Star Planet back again. Only slight dissappointment is that, as I found out later, Perry was originally supposed to be played by Hugh Laurie. "Great Ceaser's Ghost, or something obnoxious like that."
Gonna take the nephews and neice to "Cars" Tomorrow for Canada Day. YAY. I got Monday of, prolly gonna pull of a half day on Tuesday. Oh yeah. Race tomorrow, so we'll have to go the long way around .. fun fun. Will try to get some pics and post tomrrow.

Amazingly enough I've not gotten a single email issue or complaint regarding ht esecure build that was supposedly rolled out over the weekend. I am terribly impressed.
It's come to my attention that a lot of people do not realize that "The ScreenSavers" is still alive in roughly an original form still. Just not on G4 (crap tv) and without the TSS monicre (G4 sent a cease and desist). So if you are of the geekery crowd and miss Pat Norton and cronies ... check out "This Week in Tech" podcast at TWiT.tv.
On another geeky buying note ... anyone know how they are handing out the invites to GBuy? I'd love to go google for that instead of paypal.
Let's see, homework is caught up. I hope I get an ok grade in my Teamwork class. Bloody gradebook is so mess up, the teacher takes days to respond, and half the time the answers are practically worthless.
Meh.
Saw DaVinci code last night. My thoughts, a fun nice work of fiction. Also,Opus Dei really had nothing to say. Even in the movie they said that only the extreemists go to the levels displayed in the movie. Every group has nutzoid extreemists. That's a given. I really doubt anyone is gonna say Silas is generic Archeotype for Opus Dei.Current Mood: anxious

So many people claim to be geeks, so many posers. And so many of use get bad names over it. Ask yourself this in the future. If you were back in 1995. Would (s)he be labled a geek? Would (s)he be proud of it? Or woiuld (s)he be following the crowd doing the Clueless thing?Current Mood: geeky

Ok .. CentOS has really been getting a lot of press lately. Mostly press that makes CentOS seem almighty and so managers seem incompitent. Also, I get the impressions that CentOS was completely written out of scratch.
A couple of things. Rather then berating people, maybe these articles should be more about spreading knowledge. Wouldn't the FOSS movement be better if more people were happily taught instead of everything done for them, and then they face berament cause no one bothers to teach.
Second, last I read CentOS was claiming to a RedHat Derivative. An Enterprise 2.0 RH deriviative at that. No where did it mention Fedora Core. What this tells me is that it's based off of others work. So, all the people trying to pass it off as ingenous, its another RH roll-up. Additionally, I am not sure on RH's enterprise kernal licensing at this point, but I suspect if it is based on a pay version of the Kernal its not supposed to be directly used. Anyhow .. that's my rant ...Current Mood: annoyed

Underworld 2 was seen last evening. I was pleased.
Perfect balance of action, hotness, and scare your pants off horror. ( (Well it seems to have scared Selene's pants off anyway ) )
All in all, I liked it.Current Mood: busy

Apperantly CRTC thinks that I am an idiot and don't realize that they can't trace VoIP to a specific apartment with any assurity.
E911 is nice, but once again, if you have VoIP; you have to be ignorant to not realize you should have a land line for 911 and local access just in case, or at least a cell phone (gps enabled, or willing to wait for triangulation).
Apperantly the CRTC thinks we are a nation of morons. We didn't vote for Bush so go stuff it.

Ok .. saw goblet of fire. As often, I agree with eyewrist. Liked it but the others were better.
Lots of parts were left out, but one change kinda annoys me because it just seems to be appeasing whiners. But first I want to ask my friends in UK and US, if the band at the ball were a) male or b) ever referred to as the Wierd Sisters.
I bring this up because a folk band (The Wyrd Sisters) in Winnipeg made a big ruckess about them having the name first and Harry Potter would cause "confusion" in the industry.
My thoughts on this. The name is not original. Its been around for quite some time. Some rather popular or ancient referances. The norse goddesses, the wyrd sisters(middle english spelling). Macbeth references the wïerd sisters (bubble bubble, toil and trouble). And of course thanks to MacBeth, Disney's Gargoyles had them appear quite a few times.
So ladies. Sorry, I think you will remain rather obscure. After the hoopla about Goblet of Fire dies down, you will be short both money, and your 15 minutes of fame. I just wish WB didn't cater to your selfish cries for attention.
